2024 SRU Track & Field: Vaulters Weekend

Thursday, June 27 - Saturday, June 29, 2024

Slippery Rock University would like to invite all local Pole vaulters to join us for the upcoming 2024 camp season. Over the last 30+ years the SRU Pole Vault camp has helped to develop some of the state's best vaulters while providing many young athletes with the opportunity to learn from the best coaches in the area. Over the last 17 seasons, the SRU Vault squad has recorded 32 PSAC State Champions, 73 - Provisional NCAA Qualifiers, 40 – NCAA Qualifiers and 18 NCAA All AMERICANS. Most notably, SRU athletes have WON TWO NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Cameron Daugherty 2012, and Courtney McQuaide 2018. We look forward to teaching the technique that has led so many rock athletes to success.

This year Slippery Rock University is excited to announce a partnership with Coach Rhoades (‘04 Alumni) and owner of “The Vault Shack”. Coach Rhoades will act as the lead instructor and director of this year's summer Pole Camp!

Coach Rhoades has been coaching Pole Vault at Westminster College for 15 years where he has accumulated 19 NCAA All-Americans including the 2022 NCAA National Champion (Emma Rudolph) and 2017 NCAA National Champion (Marissa Kalsey).  In 2017 Marissa Kalsey set the NCAA National meet record at 4.22m (13’10”) which still stands today!

In 2020 Coach Rhoades built and opened The Vault Shack, LLC a pole vault training facility in Volant PA.  Since opening he has sustained between 65-75 athletes attending sessions weekly.  He has 6 coaches on staff at The Vault Shack and they will be joining him at Slippery Rock for this year's summer camp!

In addition to Coach Rhoades’s staff coming this summer we are excited to have Tim Tray an SRU alumni 08 who also has opened a pole training facility called Vault Athletics, in North Huntingdon PA.

The partnership between The Vault Shack and Vault Athletics is certainly unique and one of a kind!! Bradi and Tim are extremely passionate about pole vaulting but are most passionate about helping coaches, parents, and athletes work collectively to keep it safe, keep it progressive, and keep it fun!!!

Coach Rhoades’ Coaching Philosophy:

I FIRMLY BELIEVE IN COACHING EVERY DAY LIKE IT IS MY LAST. I VOW
TO COACH WITH ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY
DAY. MY GOAL IS NOT TO WIN, BUT RATHER IT IS TO COACH WINNERS.
IN REACHING MY GOAL, I INSTILL QUALITIES WITHIN MY ATHLETES THAT
THEY WILL HAVE FOR LIFE, WHICH WILL ALLOW THEM TO PERSEVERE IN
TIMES OF HARDSHIP. I SHOW BY EXAMPLE HOW TO LIVE A LIFE THAT IS
100% POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGING. I ENABLE ATHLETES TO ACHIEVE
WHAT THEY NEVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE, BY TEACHING THEM HOW
TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND THE ABILITIES THEY PHYSICALLY
AND MENTALLY POSSESS. I AM DETERMINED TO GAIN AS MUCH
KNOWLEDGE AS POSSIBLE ABOUT POLE VAULTING AND THEN TO MOLD
THE KNOWLEDGE INTO MY COACHING STYLE AND BELIEFS.

We encourage all interested athletes to sign up early, as this camp will only accept the first 20 women and 20 men who register.
