Friday, June 27 - Sunday, June 29
Sprinters & Hurdlers Camp
SRU’s Sprint & Hurdle Camp is a three-day intensive camp that will cover advanced sprinting and hurdling techniques. Sprinters will work on warm-up drills, sprint drills, sprint technique, starts and relays. Hurdlers will work on warm-up drills, hurdle drills, starts, high hurdle techniques and intermediate hurdle techniques. Sprinters and hurdlers will also go through sessions in weightlifting, plyometrics, aquatic workouts and other topics directly related to sprinting and hurdling.
The Sprints and Hurdles camp will be led by some of the most decorated athletes and coaches in SRU History. Nate Shadeck will be the lead instructor for Sprints & Hurdles Camp. Coach Shadeck is in his 14 season coaching at Slippery Rock. His athletes have earned numerous PSAC Championships, school records, and All-American honors. Assisting Coach Shadeck will be Tom Wise, Ryan Weir, Tom Melling, Mohammed Abubakari and Vanere Maynard. Coach Wise was inducted into Slippery Rock Athletics Hall of Fame and has had a successful career coaching at the high school and club level. Coach Maynard is in his 4th season on staff at Slippery Rock where he has been an integral part in school and conference records for the SRU sprints program. Tom Melling as head coach for Slippery Rock Area High School has built an impressive coaching resume that includes a team PIAA State Championship. Ryan Weir has turned the Susquehanna River Hawks sprints and hurdles group into one of the strongest groups in the Landmark Conference with numerous All American and All Conference accolades. Mohammed Abubaraki is currently the sprints coach at Hood College in Frederick, MD. Prior to his arrival in the states, he mentored a number of Ghana’s top sprinters, most notably coaching 3 athletes to the Olympic Games. In addition to our lead instructors, campers will receive instruction from many current and former SRU track and field sprinters and hurdlers.
Please note: In an effort to keep the camper to instructor ratio low, we will be capping the camp at 60 total athletes. Spots will fill fast, so register ASAP to reserve your spot.
