2025 SRU Throwers Camp
Friday, June 27 - Sunday, June 29
Throwers Camp
The SRU Throwers camp will provide high quality, in-depth coverage of the discus, shot put, and javelin, and a brief introduction to the hammer. Throws Camp will cover warm-up drills, throwing drills, and technique progressions in all three events. Additionally, the camp will review proper training for all throwing events. Sessions will include weightlifting, plyometrics, medicine ball workouts and other topics related to throwing.
The SRU Throws camp will be instructed by some of the nation’s leading experts in the throws.
The camp will be led by SRU throwing coaches Jim and Judy Geist. Their expertise has transformed the SRU program into a throwing powerhouse, that produces National caliber athletes each year. Gary Aldrich of Carnegie Mellon University will return as a camp lead this year after missing 2024 due to his Olympic Coaching duties. Coach Aldrich has many accolades to his name but most notably he was the throws coach for 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics. On the runway, Gateway High School coach and former SRU alum Tony Carr will be leading the javelin training with Jim Geist. Assisting with the shotput, discus and hammer will be USATF Certified Instructor Mike Petro of Hood College and Nick Price, former USA Track & Field Championships qualifier in the shot put. In addition to our lead instructors, campers will receive instruction from many current and former SRU track and field throwers.
Please note: In an effort to keep the camper to instructor ratio low, the camp will be capped at 60 total athletes. Spots will fill fast, so register ASAP to reserve your spot.
